Important step in the automation of chemical synthesis
Designing a new chemical synthesis can be a laborious process with a good deal of painful work, such as mixing substances, measuring temperatures, analyzing results, and then starting over if it does not work.
Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, United States, have now developed an automated chemical synthesis system that can take care of many of the most tedious aspects of chemical experimentation, freeing chemists so they can dedicate more time to the most analytical and creative aspects of your research.
The objective that the team of Timothy F. Jamison, head of the Department of Chemistry at MIT, set out to achieve was to create an easy-to-use system that would allow scientists to find the best conditions to produce their molecules of interest, that is, a General chemical synthesis platform with as much flexibility as possible.

And it seems that such an objective has been reached, since, according to the first estimates, the new system could cut the time necessary to optimize a new reaction, going from weeks or months to a single day. This augurs for this technology a wide use in academic and industrial chemical laboratories.
Anne-Catherine Bédard, Andrea Adamo and Klavs F. Jensen, from MIT, also participated in the research and development work. And it has been financed by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, under the Department of Defense of the United States).
