Five senators have the keys to the offer of the Supreme Court of Kavanaugh
(Reuters) - The nomination of President Donald Trump to the conservative federal appellate court Brett Kavanaugh for the US Supreme Court will likely depend on the votes of a handful of senators: three Republicans and two Democrats.

The Senate on Thursday reviewed an FBI report on Kavanaugh's allegations of misconduct that endangered his selection for a lifetime job at the nation's highest court. [nL2N1WK07H]
It was not immediately clear if the report, seen by some Democrats as inadequate, would satisfy senators who have concerns about Kavanaugh's past, character and temperament.
Any candidate for the Supreme Court must be approved by the Senate, where Trump Republicans have a 51-49 majority.

If all the Senate Democrats and independents opposed Kavanaugh, Trump could not afford to lose more than one Republican vote for his candidate, with Vice President Mike Pence casting a tie-breaker vote. That calculation would change if one or more Democrats voted in favor of Kavanaugh.
No Republican has said he will vote against him, but three intervened in the confirmation process last week to demand a closer examination by the FBI of Kavanaugh's past conduct.
Here are the five whose points of view will be crucial. A procedural vote could come on Friday and a final vote soon after that.
REPUBLICANS
* Jeff Flake. He voted in favor of Kavanaugh at the committee level, but only after obtaining the promise of other legislators that the FBI would investigate the accusations against the candidate. It was not clear if Flake's final vote would be conditional on the FBI investigation. He is not running for re-election and has been seen as a possible challenger to Trump in 2020.

* Susan Collins. Collins, a moderator who sometimes leaves the ranks of the party, joined Flake to request an additional study from the FBI. CNN reported Thursday that Collins said the FBI investigation "looks very complete."
* Lisa Murkowski. A renegade from the occasional party, she has not said how she will vote. She sided with Flake and Collins in the FBI investigation. Murkowski described Wednesday as "inappropriate" comments by Trump on Tuesday, mocking college professor Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were high school students in 1982.
DEMOCRATS
* Joe Manchin Facing a November re-election in West Virginia's pro-Trump state, he said on Friday he supported Flake's call to delay voting so the FBI could investigate. Manchin has not said how he will vote for Kavanaugh.
* Heidi Heitkamp Facing a re-election campaign in North Dakota, also a state very favorable to Trump, he called even before Flake did so to investigate further Ford's allegations. Five weeks before the election on November 6, Heitkamp faces a difficult decision. If he opposes Kavanaugh, he runs the risk of alienating the conservative voters who support him. If he supports Trump's candidate, it could provoke a backlash among the main supporters that could depress the participation of Democrats in their bid for a second term.
