Falcons K Bryant (hamstring) will probably miss the next game

Falcons kicker Matt Bryant is expected to miss the next game against the New York The giants after straining the right hamstring made a 57-yard field goal that helped Atlanta break a three-game losing streak.

Coach Dan Quinn said Monday that the Falcons are going to bring another kick this week to face Bryant. Giorgio Tavecchio, who was with the team at the end of the preseason, is among the candidates.

Tavecchio kicked last season for the Oakland Raiders. He made 16 of 21 field goals, including three of 50 yards or more, and all but one extra point.

Bryant, 43, is one of Atlanta's most trusted offensive weapons. He has connected on all nine field goal attempts this season, including three of at least 50 yards.

Bryant's longest kick of the season helped secure a 34-29 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. But immediately he grabbed the hamstring, left the field and went directly to the locker room.

The Falcons (2-4) face the New York Giants (1-5) next Monday night. Atlanta is out the following week, which would give Bryant additional time to recover before the November 4 game in Washington.

Coach Dan Quinn showed his confidence in Bryant when he decided to go for the long field goal with 1:10 remaining against the Bucs. With the Falcons holding on to a two-point lead, a foul would have given Tampa Bay an excellent position on the field to handle a winning field goal.

But Bryant's kick barely cleared the crossbar, which gave the Falcons an advantage that defended the victory.

"I can not say enough about Matt Bryant and the kick he had in the fourth quarter," Quinn said. "He's one of the toughest players I've trained, not just the toughest kicker, but one of the toughest players."

Your teammates certainly realize how important it is to the success of the team.

"He is an incredible player," said catcher Julio Jones. "Each kick is the same, their preparation in each match is the same."

In other injury news, running back Devonta Freeman will likely miss at least one more game, according to Quinn. He did not play against the Bucs because of a groin injury and previously missed three games in a row with a bruised knee.

This is the second year plagued by consecutive injuries to Freeman, twice selected to the Pro Bowl and one of the highest paid runners in the NFL.

Quinn is not sure of the status of receivers Calvin Ridley (ankle) and Mohamed Sanu (hip), who had to leave the game on Sunday. The coach said that an extra day of recovery before facing New York in prime time could make the difference between playing and sitting.

"In the world, a whole day is a big problem," Quinn said.

The Falcons have also been without defensive tackle Grady Jarrett (ankle) the last two games. Quinn said he will know more about Jarrett's condition when the Falcons resume practice on Thursday after taking two days off.

It's been a physically tough season for Atlanta, which already lost defenders Keanu Neal and Ricardo Allen and offensive guard Andy Levitre for injuries that ended the season. Linebacker Deion Jones is on injured reserve with a foot problem, but the Falcons are hoping he can return after missing out on the eight games required.
