(Reuters) - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) Chief executive Elon Musk said the tweet that cost him and the company $ 20 million each from the US Securities and Exchange Commission. UU It was worth it. 

The tweet, sent late on Friday afternoon, less than an hour before Musk tweeted that he would take a break from Twitter "for a few days", was in response to a question from a Twitter follower. 

The SEC in September accused Musk, 47, of tricking investors with tweets on August 7 that said he was considering taking Tesla privately at $ 420 per share and had insured funds. The tweets had no basis in fact, and the resulting market chaos hurt investors, the regulators said. 

Tesla Inc. and Elon Musk agreed to pay $ 20 million each to financial regulators and the billionaire will no longer be the company's president, but will remain the chief executive, under an agreement.    

According to the conciliation agreement, Tesla must appoint an independent president before November 13.
