Dying woman, 55, grants the wish to see the lighthouse for the first time

Massachusetts paramedics joined the palliative care team of a 55-year-old patient to make one of their last wishes come true and helped transport the woman an hour away so she could see a lighthouse for the first time. Laura Mullins, a native of Ohio with no family in the area who could help, visited the Scituate Lighthouse on Monday and told the Brewster Ambulance Service that it was her "dream come true."

The team took Mullins across a stretcher to the lighthouse so he could touch it with his hands and listen to the waves.

"He seemed at peace," said Johnathon Bobbit-Miller, paramedic field training officer at Brewster Ambulance Service and public relations contact, He told CBS News. "She said: 'I'm ready to leave now.'"

"Today we do not transport a patient to the hospital, but to the Scituate lighthouse," said a post on the Facebook page of the Brewster Ambulance Service. "We are honored to work with Kindred Hospice to make the final wishes of a hospice patient with a terminal illness of 55 years of age come true this afternoon."

Mullins, who was accompanied by Bobbit-Miller, her nurse, Beverly Bellegarde and a chaplain, also had a special stop at McDonald's on the way back so she could enjoy one of her favorite foods for the last time, according to WCVB.com. Neither the news media nor the emergency medical technicians revealed Mullins' diagnosis.

"Thanks to our two talented EMTs, Brian Costa and Era Koriveshi for their compassionate care and for making this happen today, we are proud to have him as part of the team," said the Brewster Ambulance Service Facebook post.
