Christie auctioned the first art produced by AI, and the price of the gravel was amazing
The first "painting" produced by artificial intelligence to sell at a major auction house that sold for about half a million dollars on Thursday.
The portrait of 'Edmond De Belamy' sold for $ 432,500, or 43.5 times the upper range of the estimated price, Christie's said in a statement.
The new owner is an anonymous bidder who won the computer-generated print after "a battle between three bidders, an online participant in France and a gentleman in the room, "the statement continued.

Pierre Fautrel is next to a work of art created by an algorithm entitled "Portrait of Edmond de Belamy", in Christies, New York, on October 22, 2018.
An impression of Picasso in the same auction was sold for the same price, but it was estimated that it would go from $ 200,000 to 300,000.
The portrait similar to an old master, a blurred face of a European man of indistinct origin, is a creation of the Obvious Collective based in Paris, and an algorithm.
Obvious is a trio of 25 year old friends who live and work together. One of the members, Hugo Caselles-Dupré, discovered the class of generative adverse network (GAN) algorithms while working on his Ph.D. in machine learning.
After the amazing sale, Obvious issued a statement: "" We would like to thank the AI community, especially those who have been pioneers in the use of this new technology, including Ian Goodfellow, the creator of the GAN algorithm, which inspired the name of the series Famille de Belamy, and the artist Robbie Barrat ".
Collective member Pierre Fautrel spoke with ABC News on Tuesday before the auction.
"We are really fascinated by the power of the algorithms, we start to argue, if you create art like that, this is Art"Said Fautrel.
Obvious used the GAN algorithm, which "signed" the portrait, to create portraits of the Belamy family of 11 people. Edmond was created by entering 15,000 portraits that scanned the 14th through the 20th centuries through algorithms.
The last sale of a member of the Belamy family was less dramatic.
In February, a French collector, Nicolas Laugero-Lasserre, bought the portrait of the patriarch of the Belamy family, Le Comte de Belamy, also known as The Count of Belamy, for 10,000 euros ($ 11,430), hence the guide for the auction of Christie's.
Although there are at least two more portraits of Belamy, the rest is still on sale on the Obvious website, with a list price of 10,000 euros.
"Well, I guess he's making history," said English painter Jonathan Huxley, in response to the news of the sale. "It's a gas."
"There is not an expert or financial analyst in the world who can tell me my income for the next 10 years," said Huxley, who teaches at the Royal Academy of Arts. "There's no way to put a price on art, any art dealer will tell you, especially contemporary art, it's alchemy."
