More than 120 missing children were recovered in a one-day sweep in a Michigan county, when US Marshals attempted to track victims of sex trafficking.

Of the 301 files of missing children in Wayne County, 123 were identified and recovered safely during the operation led by the newly created Children's Recovery Unit.

The bite across Wayne County was held on September 26, but was published a week later on October 3 by the United States Marshals Service.

"All located children were interviewed about the possibility of being sexually victimized or being used in a sex trafficking network during the period of time when they were considered missing," said a statement from Marshall's office in the United States.

"Three cases were identified as possible cases of sex trafficking, and a homeless teenager was transferred back to the command post after it was discovered that he had not eaten anything in three days."

It was the first time that an operation of this type was carried out in Wayne County.

"The message to the missing children and their families that we want to convey is that we will never stop looking for you," said the statement from the United States Marshals.
