On a night when he reached 500 touchdown passes in his career, Tom Brady welcomed a friend with one of his three touchdown throws on Thursday, then connected with a newcomer who could help him reach more milestones.

Like everyone at Gillette Stadium except, apparently, the Colts knew it, Brady started with a pass to Edelman, who was open for 9 yards. That caused the first of many applause for the tenth year veteran wide receiver in his first game since the 2017 preseason, when he broke his knee. Edelman was suspended for the first four games this year for violating NFL policy on performance enhancers.
That was the first of three receptions for 28 yards for Edelman in the 75-yard touchdown opening that Brady capped with a 1-yard throw to Cordarrelle Patterson.
From there, even though the Colts (1-4) had a deep trip to New England territory (3-2), reliable Adam Vinatieri, in general, missed a 38-yard field goal.
Nothing was going well for Indianapolis, particularly after Brady led a 72-yard march to his advance from 1. He then took the Patriots 68 yards near the end of the half and hit White for a 6-yard TD. to lead 21- 3.
Under pressure, Andrew Luck threw a bad pass that Patrick Chung intercepted midfield, and Stephen Gostkowski made a 45-yard field goal for a 24-3 advantage at halftime.

He already has the mark for most of the field goals made and is approaching the points record of Hall of Famer Morten Andersen, but was the victim of a strong blow in the first quarter foul.
Demonstrating his true skills, Vinatieri later nailed a 54 yards with plenty to spare.
PRODUCTIVE BACKFIELD
In addition to White's receptions, rookie Sony Michel had 98 yards on 18 carries, including New England's final score, a 34-yard run on the sideline in the final period.
Not allowed
The Colts were very exhausted, five starters were missing, including their best receiver. T.Y. Hilton was out with injuries to the chest and hamstring. Closed end Jack Doyle (hip), running back Marlon Mack (hamstring), tackle Denzelle Good (personal matter) and cornerback Kenny Moore II (concussion) were also left out. SENSE DEFLATED
