LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - "Halloween" made a murder in North America, earning $ 77.5 million when the Slasher movie was released in 3,928 locations.

David Gordon Green's "Halloween", a direct sequel to John Carpenter's 1978 classic, erased the opening of the $ 26 million franchise, previously held by Rob Zombie's reboot in 2007. "Halloween" also scored second best start for a R-rated horror movie after the release of "It" is $ 123 million. Meanwhile, Fox extended the drama YA "The Hate U Give" to 2,303 screens. He collected a solid $ 7.5 million, bringing his total earnings to $ 10.5 million.


Receipts from the October box office continue to impress as "Venom" and "A Star Is Born" deliver healthy numbers in their third outings. After the two-week reign of "Venom" on the domestic box office charts, Sunday's estimates show that Sony's superhero film directed by Tom Hardy was defeated by Lady Gaga and "A Star Is Born" by Bradley Cooper for the second place.
