LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - "Halloween" made a murder in North America, earning $ 77.5 million when the Slasher movie was released in 3,928 locations.

David Gordon Green's "Halloween", a direct sequel to John Carpenter's 1978 classic, erased the opening of the $ 26 million franchise, previously held by Rob Zombie's reboot in 2007. "Halloween" also scored second best start for a R-rated horror movie after the release of "It" is $ 123 million. He also got the second highest debut for a release in October, set earlier this month by "Venom" with $ 80 million. 

Abroad, "Halloween" generated $ 14.3 million from 23 markets for a global start of $ 91.8 million. "Halloween" cost only $ 10 million, which was another victory for Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions, which co-financed the film with Miramax. "Halloween" is now Curtis' biggest opening to date, as well as the best horror opening with a female lead. It is also the biggest release of all time with a female protagonist over 55 years. 

Carpenter returned to executive production and composed the score for the classified thriller R. The follow-up has garnered some of the best reviews for an entry in the series so far. While the last iterations have been panoramic, "Halloween" has an average of 80 percent in Rotten Tomatoes and a B + CinemaScore. 

Meanwhile, Fox extended the drama YA "The Hate U Give" to 2,303 screens. He collected a solid $ 7.5 million, bringing his total earnings to $ 10.5 million. 

Receipts from the October box office continue to impress as "Venom" and "A Star Is Born" deliver healthy numbers in their third outings. After the two-week reign of "Venom" on the domestic box office charts, Sunday's estimates show that Sony's superhero film directed by Tom Hardy was defeated by Lady Gaga and "A Star Is Born" by Bradley Cooper for the second place. "A Star Is Born" pocketed another $ 19.3 million, while "Venom" follows closely with $ 18.1 million for a solid national total of $ 126 million and $ 171 million, respectively. 

"Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" also took advantage of the spooky spirit, collecting $ 9.7 million to land in fourth place. That takes your American account to $ 28 million.
