Bellinger lifts the Dodgers over the Brewers 2-1 at 13 to tie NLCS
When Manny Machado rounded out third base, the Los Angeles Dodgers had already started coming out of the dugout.
After more than five hours of full tension. baseballThey were anxious to celebrate it.
Cody Bellinger scored the winning run at home with two outs in the 13th inning on Tuesday night to give Los Angeles a 2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers who tied the National League Championship Series in two games apiece. .
The fall of Bellinger, who started the night 1-for-21 in these playoffs, was chased to left field by teammates. Even manager Dave Roberts ran out to congratulate his gardener, who got soaked with a Gatorade shower.
"I think we gave each other a big hug," Bellinger said. "I think it was the first time I was assaulted in the gardens."
Bellinger landed a full account pitch from Junior Guerra to right field to score Machado, who was almost eliminated at second base moments earlier. Instead, he slipped into his house and touched the plate with his left hand to beat the launch of Christian Yelich and finally finish an October bite that lasted 5 hours and 15 minutes.
"One of the craziest games, where there really is no margin on either side," Roberts said. "The bullpen, what they did tonight against a very good offensive club, I take my hat off to these guys."
It was the fourth-most postseason game in the history of Dodger Stadium, and that team's first home win since beating Philadelphia in Game 4 of the 1978 NLCS.
"It was a great baseball game, it really was," Yelich said. "Both sides had opportunities and could only exchange one there at the end."
After a quick change, Game 5 in the best-of-seven series is Wednesday afternoon, with Wade Miley pitching for the Brewers in a three-day layoff against fellow left-hander Clayton Kershaw.
The teams return to Milwaukee for Game 6 on Friday.
"We made sure, we won one tomorrow and we felt much better when we returned home," Yelich said.
With one out in the 13th, Machado hit a batting single to left field and went to second place in Guerra's wild pitch. With the first base open and a Yasmani Grandal with problems on the deck followed by the pitcher's place, the Brewers chose to throw Bellinger, and it cost them.
"Honestly, I did not think he was going to pitch me," Bellinger said. "And once I noticed that he was attacking me, I just tried to put the ball into play and I hope to find a hole this time."
Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said: "I thought it was worth the risk of trying to expand to Bellinger, and if the turn at bat goes to Grandal, we walk through Grandal."
Bellinger, who entered as a pinch hitter in the sixth, also threw himself on his belly with a ball that was hit by Lorenzo Cain and came out of the 10th, extended his arms and slid like a snow angel in right field.
"I played a lot in right field in the minor leagues before I started playing in center field, I have not been much lately," Bellinger said. "But it's like riding a bike, I saw him hanging there, I ran as fast as I could and I jumped around."
Both teams used all their position players and squandered numerous opportunities. Los Angeles went through all its bullpen.
The Dodgers struck out 17 times, all against the Milwaukee relievers, and have beaten 49 times in the series. The Brewers revived 15 times.
"Exhausting," said Los Angeles outfielder Chris Taylor. "Just a mental and physical routine until the end."
Dodgers starter Rich Hill allowed one run and three hits in five innings.
The Brewers tied 1-all in the fifth in the double hitter Domingo Santana who jumped against the wall of right field with Yasiel Puig fighting in pursuit.
The Dodgers led 1-0 in Brian Dozier's RBI single in the first game against Gio Gonzalez, who left after twisting his ankle while trying to throw a single into Puig's box in the second.
Gonzalez has a sprained high ankle and may need to be replaced on the list, Counsell said.
The total crowd of 53,764 was considerably louder than Monday, when Enrique Hernandez criticized the Dodgers fans for being too quiet. Joc Pederson and Bellinger waved blue rally towels in the dugout.
But the Dodgers again had problems at the plate after going 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position during a 4-0 loss in Game 3.
Milwaukee put the potential race in third place in seventh place before Cain faced Dylan Floro.
The Dodgers had runners on the corners in the eighth inning against Josh Hader, who pitched for the second day in a row. The emerging hitter Matt Kemp was launched to end the threat.
The Brewers had another chance in the ninth against closer Kenley Jansen. With the fans on their feet, pinch-hitter Travis Shaw struck out with a runner in third to finish the inning.
In the tenth, Ryan Braun hit a single with two outs and stole the second against Jansen, who struck out Jesus Aguilar.
And when Bellinger finally finished it, the only NLCS game that had lasted the longest was the New York Mets' 15-inning win over Atlanta in Game 5 in 1999, which lasted 5 hours and 46 minutes.
"We're going to eat something," Dozier said later. "I'm starving."
Manny's love
Machado allowed his left leg to cut Aguilar's bottom right at first base while he was sent off on a routine play in the tenth. Aguilar was annoyed and the two exchanged words. Both the banks and the bullpens were emptied, but no punches were made.
"It's a dirty play by a dirty player," Yelich said.
Aguilar, however, said the two spoke after Machado scored a single in the 13th. Machado said they are going back to their days in the minors.
"Everything that happens in the field remains in the field," said Machado. "He's a great guy."

The Dodgers said tickets were still available for Game 5, which starts at 2:05 p.m. PDT.
