Assistant Smith dismissed from Ohio St pleads guilty to lower charge
Zach Smith, an assistant coach of the fired Ohio state, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct and an Ohio court issued a three-year protective order that keeps him away from his ex-wife.
Smith had faced an accusation of violation of a crime stemming from a May dispute. According to documents from the Delaware City Court, he pleaded guilty on Tuesday to disorderly conduct and was fined $ 150.
Said Smith in a Twitter After he agreed to plead guilty to avoid the cost of a trial and put an end to the situation.
Courtney Smith accepted the agreement because "a public trial would have had a negative impact on children, and her safety and welfare have always been her priority," according to a statement from her lawyer.
Zach Smith was fired in July by trainer Urban Meyer after allegations of domestic violence surfaced. Meyer was later suspended for three games for his handling.
Smith was not criminally charged with domestic violence.
