Asian stocks fell mostly after Friday's initial gains, despite the overnight jump on Wall Street. Concerns about corporate profits, trade and growth prospects weighed on sentiment.


KEEPING THE MARKER: JapanThe Nikkei 225 benchmark index lost 0.4 percent to finish at 21,184.60, while South KoreaThe Kospi fell 1.8 percent to 2,027.15. AustraliaThe S & P / ASX 200 added 0.2 percent to 5,665.20. Hong Kong's Hang Seng sank 0.9 percent to 24,759.91 and the Shanghai Composite was down 0.2 percent at 2,5984.85. Stocks rose in Indonesia but fell in Taiwan and other parts of Southeast Asia.


WALL STREET: The rally eliminated much of the market decline from the previous day. The S & P 500 index jumped 1.9 percent to 2,705.57. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 1.6 percent to 24,984.55 and the Nasdaq rose 3 percent to 7,318.34 after its biggest decline in seven years.


Market Concerns: Investors are concerned that rising interest rates and disputes with business partners may affect economic growth and corporate profits. They get more information about how the US economy is performing later, when the US government reports on economic growth during the third quarter.


THE APPOINTMENT: "Despite the relief that comes from the gains on Wall Street, the tracks are mixed from Asia to Friday," said Jingyi Pan of IG in a comment. "A notable trend that would increase the pressure for Asian markets this morning was also the strengthening of the dollar."
