The Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) (Spain) has launched the Discrimination and Inequality Laboratory (D-Lab). Its function will be to provide the necessary infrastructure to carry out experimental field research in the field of social sciences on discrimination in the labor market. Its leaders expect it to become a center of reference in the study of these problems in Europe.
At present, D-Lab is developing several projects. One of them focuses on discrimination in the employment of the second generation of immigrants and is being carried out simultaneously in five countries in Europe, including Spain. This is the Growth Equal Opportunities Migration and Markets (GEMM) project, which conducts a comparative study on ethnic discrimination in employment in Germany, Spain, Norway, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
"This is a unique project, very innovative and with a huge potential for scientific impact," says the director of the D-Lab, Javier Polavieja, professor of the Department of Social Sciences and Santander Bank professor at UC3M.
Another of the projects underway, New Approaches to Integration Research, which is funded by the Ministry of Economy and Business, focuses on the analysis of the integration of international migrants in European societies.

"The Laboratory offers training in the framework of these projects for undergraduate and graduate students and can be a springboard for the development of the early career of young researchers," says Polavieja.
On the other hand, the advisory board of the D-Lab includes internationally renowned experts in the fields of migration, social inequality and experimental research. (Source: UC3M)
