An eight-year-old Swedish-American girl pulls the pre-Viking era sword from a lake
A young Swedish-American girl had an exciting day on the lake when she found and retrieved an ancient sword from the waters. Saga Vanecek was the girl who discovered the sword.
Saga said: "I was out in the water, throwing sticks and rocks and things to see how far they jump, and then I found some kind of stick," he continues, "I picked it up and I was going to drop it again Water, but I had a handle, and I saw that it was a little pointed at the end and all rusted, I held it in the air and said: 'Dad, I found a sword!'
His father came to see his discovery; I could see that it was rusty and possibly dangerous from where I was sitting.
Saga said: "When he saw that it was bent and rusty, he came running and took it."
The sword itself was exposed possibly due to the drought to which the area has been exposed this year. The family had been installing a buoy to warn the boats of a dangerous underwater hazard at the low level. Her father, Andy Vanecek remembers: "I asked Saga to bring the buoy, but she took her time like a child does, playing in the water, I was getting impatient because the World The game of the cup was about to begin!
The sword itself has been dated by a local museum since the 5th or 6th century, which is considered the pre-Viking era. The sword itself is about 85 cm long and is made of wood and metal. The local museum identified the sword and will do the conservation work to see more details.
However, the museum warned that it would be a long time before it was on display saying: "The conservation process takes a long time because it is a complicated environment with wood and leather, so they have several steps to ensure that it is preserved for the future."
Other searches on the lake have led to the discovery of a brooch from the same period and an 18th century coin. However, none of these findings is considered as necessary as the sword. There is no information on how these elements came to be in the lake yet.
