Police poll alleged anti-Semitic hate crimes by members of the Labor Party of U.K.
LONDON: British police are investigating suspected anti-Semitic hate crimes by suspected members of the main opposition Labor Party, the latest escalation of the party's long struggle against accusations of prejudice against Jews.
The London police chief, Cressida Dick, said that in September she received a file of material related to the alleged anti-Semitism within the work, which her officers are investigating for possible criminal activities. He added that the police are investigating specific incidents and not the party itself.
The work has faced a Wave of accusations of anti-Semitism. in recent years, as well as the criticism that its leaders have been too slow to eradicate members who show prejudices towards Jews, especially online. The research suggests that the party's battle against anti-Semitism is not over.
The party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, has been accused of anti-Semitism, a charge he denies. However, his perceived failure to eliminate anti-Jewish prejudice has alienated many Jewish members of Labor and has generated criticism from some of his own legislators.
Anti-Semitism has it resurfaced in other places in Europe and the USA., alarming the Jewish communities and fueling the perception that the authorities seem unable to do much about it.
On Saturday, 11 people died when an armed man opened Fire in a synagogue in Pittsburgh. The suspect, Robert Bowers, 46, expressed hatred for Jews in social media posts and shouted that "all Jews must die" during an exchange of gunfire with police, a local law enforcement official said.
The Campaign Against Anti-Semitism of the U.K., a charity that combats anti-Jewish prejudices, gave the file to Ms. Dick, detailing cases such as denial of the Holocaust and threats against Jewish labor lawmakers.
Deputy labor leader Tom Watson told the British Broadcasting Corp. that anyone found guilty of such crimes should face the full force of the law.
"If this does one thing, it will silence a small number of people who still believe that anti-Semitism does not exist in my party or in other parties, and that makes it difficult for the campaign to try to solve this problem as quickly and as quickly as possible. "Fast and as hard as we can," he said.
