Earth Hour 2013 ... "Turn off the Light and Light the Sky"
The Amateur Astronomical Community
Chilena joins "Earth Hour 2013" (LHP / Earth Hour). This is one
global campaign that seeks the participation of corporations, cities, and
of all the people to carry out the voluntary action more
of the world in the fight against climate change and the
protection of the environment of our planet.
The
idea is to promote the invitation to commit by modifying habits and
conducts that allow a better and responsible attitude with the environment
environment, through simple actions such as turn off non-essential lights and electrical appliances dispensable for one hour,
as a sign of a commitment that demonstrates the concern of cities, corporations and mainly people
from around the world for the climate change that affects our planet.
Turning off the lights thus becomes a powerful symbol that has
worldwide impact. This campaign is about a public awareness initiative, aimed at raising awareness
and reflection on the health of our planet, and on the
actions that we can take to contribute to the reduction of
impacts on nature. In this way, together with the symbolic action
To turn off the light, it is expected that thousands of people and organizations will
engage with simple long-term activities and actions
permanent (for example using efficiently water and energy),
helping to improve not only the quality of the environment, but also
also that of ourselves.
The World Conservation Organization WWF, is one of the organizations of
independent conservation with greater international trajectory.
It was founded in Switzerland in 1961 and currently has with 5 million members and more than 13 thousand projects in 157 countries.
WWF works for a living planet, for the conservation of biodiversity and promotion
of the sustainable use of natural resources.
This initiative is promoted by the
WWF. It started as an action of a city, and today it is recognized as a
powerful symbol of citizen manifestation in the face of change
climate. It started 6 years ago in Sydney, Australia, and has been
massified to such an extent that in its latest version, in March 2012, it achieved
the participation of more than 6950 cities in 152 countries and territories, achieving the commitment of 200 thousand people with the campaign "I Will If You Will".
Earth Hour 2012, along with getting the shutdown of buildings symbols around the world, for the first time had the participation of
the crew of the International Space Station (ISS). The
Dutch astronaut André Kuipers commented online on the global blackout and
disseminated the corresponding images through the Agency's website
European Space (ESA).
This year "Earth Hour" will be held on Saturday, March 23 between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m..
Hundreds of millions of people around the world and also in Chile
will participate in it. Everyone can join and promote a change ...

With lights off, you can see the stars much better.
Challenge the World, Save the Planet ...
This year, along with turning off the lights and going Beyond the Hour, "60+", La
Earth Hour encourages people, and organizations, to accept or
make challenges for the campaign, and thus achieve greater participation and
commitment to the main objective of the event. Defying or being challenged is aimed at

for Earth Hour.We saved the sky ....
Why amateur and amateur astronomerstwo to the astronomine, do we join this campaign? Under the premise "Turn off the Light and Light the Sky"
we also work to promote awareness of the
importance of having darker skies that allow us to observe
the kindness that the Universe offers us that night after night is presented
before our eyes, and that due to the excess of luminosity that today
day exists in virtually every city in the world, we can not
appreciate and admire. The astronomical observation work is seen
difficult when it is done near cities that,
unfortunately, they do not have lighting systems that allow
direct most of the light down and not up. East
excess luminosity known as "light pollution" is the
factor that negatively influences sky observations, since
reduces the notoriety of the stars and other stars of the vault
light blue. From certain heights on the horizon, it is not possible to see
practically no star, and it is for this very reason that
most important astronomical observatories in the world should be built
very far from the towns and cities.

the Elqui Valley in Chile,

generated by the cities of
La Serena and Coquimbo

"Chile
He joined La Hora del Planeta in 2009, managing to summon
public and private organizations, as well as citizens of all
country. Each version of Earth Hour in Chile, adds new
emblematic, corporate and institutional buildings, that want
turn off their lights and be part of this global campaign in the fight against
climate change"For some time we have been working in collaboration with organizations
and national and international entities with the objective of achieving
implementation of lighting which, as far as possible, does not
"pollute" the beautiful skies we have in our country. For this
reason is that we also join "Earth Hour", because not
we only join the fight against climate change, but that
we also aim to achieve the awareness of all people
on the importance of diminishing the impact of excess
light in the possibility of observing and studying the universe. Finally to join La Hora del Planeta 2013 is required:
- to register your commitment to participate here.
- To turn off
the non-essential lights and disconnect the electrical equipment one hour,
between 8.30 and 9.30 pm on this Saturday, March 23, 2013.
- Keep actions beyond the sixty minutes that Earth Hour lasts, turning them into everyday practices.
