Trump unleashes a series of false statements in the run-up to the midterm elections: analysis
If last week was about keeping up with the dizzying pace President trumpThe campaign and the media appearances, this week is about keeping up with all the false statements and empty promises.

With only two weeks left for the midterm elections, the president seems to be throwing something new to the wall every day, watching to see what sticks. Data verifiers are having trouble keeping up, but here's a quick snapshot:
Sending troops to the border.
While a caravan of thousands of migrants goes to northern Mexico, President Trump has threatened to send the US Army to close the southern border.
But he can not do that on his own.
The Posse Comitatus Law (enacted after the Civil War to prevent the US military from watching the southern part of the country) prohibits the use of military force in the country without the approval of Congress, and that is unlikely. He could try to avoid this by declaring the caravan an invading force, but that is not likely to be maintained.

Honduran migrants participate in a caravan that goes to the US. UU., On the road between Ciudad Hidalgo and Tapachula, state of Chiapas, Mexico, October 21, 2018.
I could try sending more National Guards, but that probably will not happen either. He already asked the governors of the border for 4,000 troops of the National Guard and never got it.
At this time there are only 2,100 at the border and they are limited in what they can do. They can not perform law enforcement tasks or interact with migrants.
"Middle East"
The president also affirmed several times on Monday that "those from the Middle East are mixed" with the caravan. He has not provided evidence to support that claim, nor does he have anyone in his administration. Not to mention that he is falsely suggesting that "Middle Eastern" people are intrinsically dangerous.
On Monday, Sarah Sanders said she "absolutely" knows there is "Middle East" in the caravan because "we have 10 people suspected or known of terrorists who try to enter our country illegally every day."
The problem is that she was taking the facts completely out of context. Secretary of the Department of National Security Kirstjen Nielsen have recently used this figure too. But it refers to all attempts by terrorists suspected or known to enter the country ... not through a caravan on the southern border.
Cutting help
Once again, the president declared that he will cut aid to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador ... and again he is talking about something that is not so simple for him. Even if he finds a way to cut off foreign aid that Congress has already approved (and that Democrats are already promising to fight), he will probably face objections within his own party.
A Decomposition of the approximately $ 150 million in aid to each country shows that aid is used to combat the problems that many of these people are fleeing: like drugs, poverty and corruption. And it is not clear if someone in your administration is still on board. The Department of State has not offered any specific plan.
New tax cuts
It was as if he had read the polls that say that American voters are not happy with the $ 1.5 trillion corporate tax cut approved earlier this year and decided, over the weekend, that he wanted a new tax cut of 10. percent only by middle class. He said at the rally in Houston last night that "it will be launched next week," giving the false impression that something significant could happen before the event. choice.

But obviously, with the Congress outside and only two weeks before the election, there is no chance of a meaningful action taking place before November 6.
The list goes on
Over the weekend, Trump said the Democrats did not help with their opioid bill (it passed 98-1 in the Senate with a "no" Republican vote. The number of jobs that the president says will be created from Saudi arms contracts has evolved from 40,000 to 1 million in recent days. He falsely claimed that illegal immigrants receive luxury cars. By not providing evidence, he suggested that the Democrats organized and financially supported the caravan. He falsely claimed that there have been riots in California over the laws of the sanctuary city.
