The people who participate in the International Night of the Moon Observation (InOMN) on Saturday (October 20) have something else to celebrate: the 50th anniversary of the Apollo lunar program this month. And there are many ways for the public to get involved, starting with this map of world events on the NASA website.



	

	InOMN has been running since 2010 to help people celebrate the "cultural and personal connections" Earthlings have with the moon, our closest large neighbor in space, according to NASA. Coincidentally, this year's event coincides with the anniversary of the launch of Earth in orbit Apollo 7, 50 years ago. 		InOMN takes place every year in September or October when the moon is in its first quarter, which means that its phase is between a new moon and a full moon. When the moon is half-lit, its rugged terrain is more easily shown due to shadows, especially around the day-night line (called the terminator).
